Mallorca in Cycling Fever: Between Tradition and Modernity – The Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge 2024

Mallorca, the pearl of the Balearics, is gearing up for a glittering event that will place the island at the centre of the international cycling world in January 2024. Manuel Hernández, director of Unisport Consulting, announced at a formal ceremony at the Nivia Born Boutique Hotel that the Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge Ciclista Mallorca will be held for both women and men. The event, attended by figures such as the Conseller de Turisme, Cultura i Esports, Jaume Bauzà, and the CEO of Garden Hotels, Gabriel Llobera, promises to be a festival of cycling.

This year the event will celebrate a special premiere: the first Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge Ciclista Mallorca for women. Over three days, from 20 to 22 January, the best teams of the international women's peloton will compete on the roads of Mallorca for the Felanitx-Colonia de Sant Jordi, Palma and Binissalem-Andratx trophies.

After the women, it is the men's turn to show what they can do. From 24 to 28 January, the XXXIII Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge Ciclista Mallorca will take place. It comprises five trophies: Calvià, Ses Salines-Felanitx, Serra de Tramuntana-Selva-Lluc, Pollença-Port d'Andratx and Palma.

There is good news for cycling fans around the globe too: as in the previous year, the thrilling closing stages of the races will be broadcast live on television. Eurosport and Teledeporte will bring the final hour and a half of each of the eight races, three for the women and five for the men, directly into viewers' living rooms, thanks to a partnership with the Balearic institutions and their support for the Challenge Ciclista Mallorca as a strategic event for the island's tourism promotion.
