As the high season on Mallorca drew to a close, the island's restaurateurs declared the summer a successful and profitable trading period in 2012. Bistros, fast-food chains and sausage stands, as well as fine dining, gourmet restaurants and high-end establishments, all reported rising visitor numbers compared with 2011.

Gourmet Cuisine, Bistros and Cafés Alike Are Satisfied

This year, many restaurants and eateries on Mallorca have disappeared, yet far more new openings have taken their place. Contrary to the wider Spanish economic situation, the outlook is positive, and a booming tourism sector is strengthening economic output in the Balearics. This leaves a broadly satisfied restaurant industry and even prompts some to dream of the coming summer.

One of the culinary highlights of the season was surely the rabbit-fillet lasagne with a white truffle filling, says Corrado Gamba of La Concha, the island's finest Italian restaurant.

The choice of delicious restaurants on Mallorca exceeds the span of any holiday, unless you have the whole summer, and the budget, to sample all the island's eateries.
